Joanna Groden
"Inherited Susceptibility to Cancer: Lessons in Cancer Biology"

Position

Professor and Vice Dean for Research
The Ohio State University College of Medicine
Columbus, OH USA

Profile

Joanna Groden focuses on human susceptibility to colon cancer through the study of the APC tumor suppressor, on DNA instability through the study of the BLM helicase, and on mouse models of intestinal cancer.

Her past work led to the discovery of the human disease genes APC and BLM and their germline mutations in familial adenomatous polyposis coli and in the chromosome breakage syndrome Bloom’s syndrome, respectively, and the establishment and use of mouse models of human disease to test ideas relevant to understanding the genetics of intestinal tumor formation.

She is also committed to the training and mentoring of PhD students, postdoctoral fellows and junior faculty in the basic and translational sciences.
